Santa Rosa Information: History and Information
The Santa Rosa area was originally the home of the Pomo, Miwok, and Wappo tribes. The Spanish arrived in the early 1800s and the first deed in the area was the Rancho Cabeza de Santa Rosa, granted to Senora Maria Ignacia Lopez de Carillo. The origin of the name “Santa Rosa” is attributed to Father Juan Amorosa. The story is that he was performing a baptism on the “Feast of Santa Rosa de Lima” and the stream at which the baptism was taking place was then named Santa Rosa, with the name later spreading to cover the entire Santa Rosa Valley area.
Santa Rosa was officially incorporated in 1867. The arrival of the railroad in 1870 brought thousands of new settlers to the area, with the town increasing tenfold from the first few hundred who first established the town. The area has been the home of some notable individuals, including Luther Burbank, and was also the location of a famous utopian experiment called Fountain Grove.
The area now is home to many flourishing industries, including the wine industry, a poultry processing operation, a grocery chain, the trucking industry, warehousing and hospitality, as well as the home of many city, county and state employees, and a nearby psychiatric hospital, among many others businesses and organizations. Any industry can lead to injuries, illness, or health conditions, and our firm represents injured or disabled workers in all industries and walks of life in the Santa Rosa area.
Santa Rosa is the hub for workers’ compensation cases in the surrounding area. Cases from Sonoma County, Mendocino, Lake, Napa and Marin Counties are heard through the Santa Rosa Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board.
